A CHANCE to make history is up for grabs for Musselburgh Athletic in the Scottish Cup.
The county side look to make the fourth round of the competition and the possibility of playing teams from the very top of Scotland’s football pyramid for the first time.
Standing in their way are a Bo’ness United side who they defeated earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Tranent hope to keep their own cup dreams alive as they entertain West Park United in the Scottish Junior Cup.
The remaining East Lothian sides are all on the lookout for three points.
Haddington Athletic welcome Dundonald Bluebell to Millfield in the top flight of the East of Scotland Football League while Dunbar United travel to in-form Hill of Beath Hawthorn.
Preston Athletic take on Thornton Hibs in the First Division and Mark Smith’s debut as Ormiston Primrose boss comes at Linton Hotspur in the Third Division.
Match of the Day
Musselburgh Athletic v Bo’ness United
Scottish Cup Third Round
Kick-off 3pm
MUSSELBURGH Athletic have already made history by reaching the third round of the Scottish Cup.
Now, they look to write another chapter as they attempt to reach the fourth round and the possibility of facing clubs from the Scottish Premiership.
Bo’ness United, who play in the tier above their hosts, will have similar ambitions.
The two sides met earlier this month in the South of Scotland Challenge Cup, with the Honest Toun team coming out on top.
They will be hoping history repeats itself this afternoon (Saturday).
Tranent v West Park United
Scottish Junior Cup Fourth Round
Kick-off 2.30pm
GOING well in the Scottish Lowland Football League (SLFL), Tranent have not taken that form into cup competitions.
They were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Dundee North End and the South of Scotland Challenge Cup by Hill of Beath Hawthorn.
Tranent will go into this afternoon’s clash as heavy favourites, with their opponents playing in the Fourth Division of the West of Scotland Football League.
Approached in the right manner, the East Lothian side should have more than enough to progress.
Haddington Athletic v Dundonald Bluebell
East of Scotland Football League Premier Division
Kick-off 2.30pm
IT IS take two at Millfield as Haddington Athletic and Dundonald Bluebell get ready to face off.
The two sides were due to meet last weekend but saw the game cancelled by Saturday’s snowy weather.
Both sides will be hoping for better luck this time around and Haddington could even move into second spot in table – albeit only with a ridiculous set of results.
Their opponents sit ninth and could also move up the standings if results go their way.
Hill of Beath Hawthorn v Dunbar United
East of Scotland Football League Premier Division
Kick-off 2.30pm
POSSIBLY the toughest test in the top flight of the East of Scotland Football League at the moment awaits Dunbar United.
Hill of Beath Hawthorn have been in impressive form in recent months as they have raced up the table.
Victories in their games in hand would see them leapfrog Musselburgh Athletic at the top.
However, Dunbar have steadied the ship have a sluggish start to the campaign and could leapfrog Penicuik Athletic with a victory.
Preston Athletic v Thornton Hibs
East of Scotland Football League First Division
Kick-off 2.30pm
PRESTON Athletic – like the majority of lower league sides – were left sidelined last weekend by Storm Bert.
Now, they welcome Thornton Hibs knowing that a good result could move them up the First Division table.
Their visitors sit sixth in the standings but have lost five of their 13 league games so far this term.
Preston will be hoping home advantage proves decisive.
Linton Hotspur v Ormiston Primrose
East of Scotland Football League Third Division
Kick-off 2pm
ROCK bottom of the East of Scotland Football League but Ormiston Primrose will be hoping for the start of a new era.
Mark Smith takes charge for the first time as Ormiston make the trip to promotion-chasing Linton Hotspur.
A positive result could take them off the bottom of the table and Smith will be hoping for a good showing.
