ROSS Muir’s bid to reach the UK Championship was ended in the penultimate qualifying round on Tuesday evening.

The Musselburgh potter lost out 6-3 to world number 23 Robert Milkins, despite winning the opening frame.

Milkins led 2-1 and 4-2 on his way to victory in Leicester.

Muir reached the third round of qualifying by overcoming six-time World Championships runner-up Jimmy White.

Two century breaks – 103 and 125 – helped Muir into a 3-1 lead in the best-of-11 contest.

Trailing 5-1, 62-year-old White launched an impressive fightback before Muir won frame 10 to secure his passage to the next round.
