A SENIOR figure at Haddington’s sports centre is celebrating once again after being crowned a double doubles champion.

Craig Lamb won the men’s doubles (over-45s) and mixed doubles (over-50s) at Badminton Scotland’s Scottish National Masters Championships.

The championships, which took place at the end of last month in Glasgow, saw Lamb team up with Mark Mackay in the men’s doubles and Carole Begg in the mixed doubles.

Craig, who is service manager at the Aubigny Sports Centre, said: “I’ve been playing badminton for years and it’s fantastic.

“I’d really encourage anyone interested in badminton, or any other racket sports, to reach out to their local club or visit their nearest sports centre to give it a try.

“It’s not only a good way to keep active but also a great way to catch up with a mate – especially during these long, dark nights.”

Racket sports have a strong presence in the East Lothian community, with facilities available at Enjoy Leisure sports centres.

From tennis to pickleball, the charity caters for a variety of sports and encourages suggestions from the community to develop its courts for even more activities.

Bill Axon, chief executive of Enjoy Leisure, congratulated his colleague.

He said: “I believe I speak on behalf of all of Craig’s colleagues when I say that we’re all extremely proud of him. Racket sports like badminton are incredibly inclusive, and as Craig mentioned, offer a great opportunity to catch up with friends.”
