ATHLETES from East Lothian Swim Team (ELST) headed to Aberdeen over the weekend to compete against some of the country’s best swimmers in the North District Open Championships.

The Open Championships format means swimmers compete against each other regardless of age and therefore medalling or qualifying for a final is a significant achievement.

ELST medal winners in the open category were:

  • Zara Krawiec – gold in the 200m individual medley (IM);
  • Tegan Black – bronze in the 400m IM.

In the junior finals:

  • Anna Lawson – first in the 50m freestyle and second in the 50m backstroke;
  • Zara Krawiec – first in the 50m butterfly;
  • Lucy Hall – third in the 100m butterfly;
  • Alex Taylor – third in the 50m freestyle.

In total, 19 ELST swimmers took part in the event and, in addition to the medallists, Conner Aspinall, Lewis Lothian and Alice Finlay also made finals over the weekend.

Jamie Ward, ELST head coach, was delighted with all the swimmers’ efforts.

He said: “The North District Open is a great first exposure to heats and finals swimming early in our season.

“This meet is a good early indicator for the season ahead, as our swimmers are just getting started.

“To have such great results at this early stage is very pleasing.”
