MUSSELBURGH Athletic have made history by reaching the third round of the Scottish Cup for the first time after a stunning comeback victory on Saturday.
Burgh went into their match with Caledonian Braves as clear underdogs, given their Lanarkshire visitors topped the Lowland League table – the tier above Burgh – and were yet to lose in the league so far this season.
Sure enough, Braves were 1-0 up at half-time at Olivebank and thinks looked bleak for the hosts when they went down to 10 men just two minutes into the second half after Andy Dempster was sent off.
But 10-man Burgh produced an incredible turnaround and it was Jackson Barker who was the hero.
First he levelled the scores in the 57th minute, then eight minutes later he turned the game on its head with his and Burgh's second to put them into the lead.
Burgh still had 25 minutes plus stoppage time to see out but they did so successfully to claim a memorable victory.
They will now eagerly await Sunday's third-round draw to find out who they will play on the weekend of November 30, as Championship and League One sides now enter the competition, meaning Burgh could potentially face the likes of Livingston, Dunfermline Athletic or Partick Thistle.
