DUNBAR United and Musselburgh Athletic were the winners out of East Lothian’s football teams over the weekend.

Tranent picked up a point at Linlithgow Rose in the Scottish Lowland Football League but there were defeats for Haddington Athletic, Preston Athletic and Ormiston Primrose.

Both Dunbar and Musselburgh enjoyed 4-1 home successes in the top flight of the East of Scotland Football League (EoSFL).

The Seasiders picked up three points against Dundonald Bluebell.

Bob Berry’s early effort was all that separated the sides over the opening 45 minutes before Dunbar seized control after the break.

Taylor Hendry netted a double before the visitors pulled one back but any chance of a comeback was killed off by Darren Handling in stoppage time.

Meanwhile, a Jordan Smith hat-trick helped keep Musselburgh remain top of the table against Hutchison Vale.

They had to survive a scare though as the visitors opened the scoring on seven minutes.

Smith soon equalised and then netted from the penalty spot to put his side in front before the midway point of the half.

The frontman netted a second penalty early in the second half and three points were well and truly secured when Nathan Evans, who had replaced Smith, scored late on.

Meanwhile, Harry Girdwood continued his fine form in putting Tranent in front at Linlithgow Rose.

The West Lothian side pulled level midway through the second half before substitute Adam McGowan put Tranent back in front.

However, there would be one last twist as the hosts found a second equaliser.

Losing two goals in first half stoppage time ensured Haddington did not manage to pick up three points at home to Hill of Beath Hawthorn.

The visitors led 2-0 thanks to goals in the 48th and 52nd minute of the first half.

Grant Rose pulled one back for Haddington in the second half to give them hope but the Fife team scored two more to continue their fine run of form.

In the First Division, Preston Athletic lost out in a seven-goal thriller at Bo’ness Athletic.

Kris Renton scored a double for Preston, who also found the net through Brad Donaldson, but it proved not enough.

Finally, Ormiston Primrose went down 6-1 away to Linton Hotspur in the Third Division.

The visitors trailed 3-1 at the break and failed to produce a memorable comeback after the interval.
