ADON Davie’s title ambitions were cruelly ended when he suffered a serious injury in the final race of the season.

The Prestonpans racer needed to win at Brands Hatch over the weekend to have any chance of overhauling Cameron Hall at the top of the Supersport Cup standings.

Third place in the first race of the weekend saw the gap closed to 24 points but Davie suffered a mechanical failure in the early stages of the second race and ended up with two broken bones in his foot and a torn meniscus in his knee.

He said: “It was lap three that I had the mechanical failure going into turn three.

“Luckily, that is the corner with the most run off.

“I had to basically jump off and it is the first time I have not been able to get up straight away.

“The way my leg had twisted and flexed, I knew it was not right.

“I was taken to the medical centre and my knee was the most painful part.

“It was just awkward and I could not move it, bend it or twist it.

“It was not until later that they said my foot was getting quite swollen and I got it x-rayed.

“It turns out it was broken in two places as well.”

Davie (pictured) had gone into the final two races of the campaign knowing he needed a “miracle” to leapfrog Hall at the top of the standings.

The Kawasaki rider held a 28-point lead ahead of the second trip to Brands Hatch of the season.

Davie, of Prestonpans, managed to shave four points off the lead going into the last race but knew he needed to win and for his rival not to score any points to win the title by the slenderest of margins.

In the end, it was not to be, despite Davie winning six races compared to Hall’s five over the course of the season.

The difference proved to be the number of races finished, with Davie posting three ‘did not finishes’ compared to his rival’s one.

He said: “I think the main difference was just inconsistency.

“I crashed out at Donington Park and then at Brands Hatch in the summer.”

Despite those setbacks, Davie, who works at Johnston Carmichael, felt that there were positives to take from the campaign.

The Ducati rider told Courier Sport: “Knockhill was a huge highlight.

“I qualified ninth overall, which was the highest I had qualified at that point.

“Definitely, winning both races there is one that sticks out and also the second round at Donington.

“We had the biggest improvement there when we were not really expecting that.”

Looking ahead, 19-year-old Davie is aiming to once again be chasing chequered flags next season.

He said: “It is not a massive injury.

“I’ve got a moon boot and crutches for a couple of weeks and then I have got an appointment in two weeks to see about my knee.

“I will just continue to train and it is a lot easier to continue training than to stop and start again.”
