A PENALTY shootout triumph saw Tranent continue their quest for the Scottish Junior Cup on Saturday.

The Belters were one of the four East Lothian sides celebrating victory over the weekend.

Musselburgh Athletic and Preston Athletic kept their South of Scotland Challenge Cup hopes alive with wins while Haddington Athletic enjoyed a home win in the East of Scotland Football League (EoSFL) Premier Division.

Ormiston Primrose were edged out 3-2 in the Third Division while Dunbar United lost by the same scoreline in the East of Scotland (City) Cup.

Guy McGarry had given Tranent the lead at Petershill just before the half time whistle.

And it looked as if they were on easy street when Danny Handling doubled the advantage with under 20 minutes left to play.

However, the West of Scotland Football League side scored twice in the final 15 minutes to take the tie to penalties.

It was the visiting side who kept their cool to come through 7-6.

Meanwhile, in East Lothian, Haddington were 4-2 winners over Tynecastle.

The visitors had opened the scoring but found themselves 3-1 down at the break thanks to a Nick Aitchison effort and a double from Grant Rose.

Tynecastle managed to reduce the gap to one but Rose completed his hat-trick to put Haddington fourth in the table.

In the Third Division, Ormiston had trailed 2-0 to Lochgelly Albert before Scott Moffat pulled one back before half time.

Brandon Neil levelled things up five minutes after the interval but the visitors replied quickly to take all three points.

Meanwhile, in the South of Scotland Challenge Cup, Musselburgh needed extra time to overcome a spirited Kirkcaldy & Dysart performance.

The hosts, who survived a scare with the Fife outfit missing an early penalty, opened the scoring on 103 minutes through Bob Wilson.

Jackson Barker’s effort five minutes from time killed off any chance of a cup shock.

Preston were 2-0 up against Girvan through efforts from Michael McFarlane and Jack Gillan.

However, the visitors fought back and levelled things up before Ben Weekes put Preston into the next round.

At New Countess Park, Bonnyrigg Rose were 3-0 up before the hosts started a fightback.

Dean Whitson pulled one back after the half hour before Liam Gregory ensured a nervy finish.
