SCOTT Bonar feels that there is more to come from his Haddington Athletic side after they recorded their biggest win of the season so far.
Four goals in the first 16 minutes helped the county team to a 7-1 demolition of Luncarty at Brownlands Park on Saturday.
The victory – the biggest in the East of Scotland Football League Premier Division this term – keeps Bonar and his men in the top half of the table and seven points off top spot.
The manager said: “It definitely was our best performance.
“We are building a new team and have to put a lot of different aspects into the team.
“We are working on a lot of different things and starting to see a lot of that coming together.
“On Saturday, we were exceptional.
“The way we passed the ball, kept the ball, movement, everything we have been working on really came to fruition.”
The win came a fortnight after Haddington had surrendered a two-goal advantage to lose against previously winless St Andrews United.
Bonar told Courier Sport: “We were 2-0 up at St Andrews and comfortable.
“We put a lot into the game and it was really annoying to lose 3-2.
“They scored a couple of wonder goals but we were disappointed in ourselves for throwing away those three points.
“You win them and you would be sitting fourth.”
The Hi Hi’s will look to build on the result when they welcome Tynecastle to Millfield on Saturday.
The Capital club have won just once in the league this campaign, while Haddington have only taken three points at home on one occasion.
Bonar felt it demonstrated how far the club had come that some people were disappointed not to have taken maximum points from encounters with Jeanfield Swifts, Sauchie Juniors and county rivals Dunbar United this term.
He said: “Obviously, myself, I will be honest, I want to win the league.
“I am not going to hide the fact, otherwise I would be as well going shopping on a Saturday!
“Even now, I still harbour ambitions of winning the league but what I mean by that is if Haddington stay in the league then that is successful.
“If you compare budgets with some of the bigger clubs and stature of them, where they can get players from because they have been at this level a wee bit longer or there are fewer clubs in the area, we have got clubs in close vicinity.
“If we stay in the league, it is a success but, for me personally, I am ambitious.
“I want to win every league and try to hammer that into the players.
“We just concentrate on the team above us and, if we can get on top of them, then that leads to wherever it will be.
“It is a successful season to stay in the league but obviously everybody has ambitions to win the league.
“There will be lots of twists and turns in the league to come.
“I feel we are learning each game, coming out of each defeat as a better team, and I thought that was evident on Saturday.”
