TRACK and field athletes from under-13s to seniors flocked to the National Championships, held in Grangemouth over two consecutive weekends last month.
The 4J Age Group Championships for under-13s, under-15s and under-20s were very competitive, with 1,500 event entries from athletes across the whole of Scotland, as well as a few Irish and English visitors.
In the under-13 category, East Lothian's Tom Ibbs took silver in the boys' 1,500m in a time of 4m42.05s and also came fourth in the high jump with his best jump of 1.42m.
Meanwhile, in the under-15 girls', Madison Taylor earned herself a (wind-assisted) personal best in the 100m with her run of 14.43s, and she then went on to take sixth place in her long jump pool with a new personal best of 4.01m.
In the large field of 300m heats, Heidi Nicholson came 13th with her run of 47.37s, and Morven Kenny qualified with a time of 45.13s and then went on to come seventh in the final.
Ava Rose Curtis represented Team East Lothian's (TEL) under-15 girls in the 800m, finishing her run in 2m40.80s.
And Imogen Turner earned herself a hard-won bronze in her 1,500m race in a time of 5m02.36s.
In the under-15 boys, Ben Anderson finished his 100m in 12.26s and then went on to come 10th in the long jump with his 4.90m jump.
Frank Orsi did extremely well with two personal bests, coming seventh in his 1.25kg discus event with a throw of 17.41m, and fourth in the javelin with his new record of 25.74m, as well as completing his 800m run in a time of 2m31.8s.
In the under-20 women's events, Maja Thomson brought home the silver in her 800m race in a time of 2m21.20s and Erin Hall came seventh in her long jump competition with her jump of 4.81m.
The under-20 men's 800m proved to be a very tactical race, with Fraser Lupton finishing in 2m00.97s, Jamie Smith coming in at 2m03,05s and Luke Mercer earning himself a personal best of 2m20.88s.
Meanwhile, in the under-20 men's 1,500m final, Ronnie Brown came sixth with his time of 4m07.73s and Aidan Paige won the silver with his speedy race of 4m05.92s.
Elsewhere, this year is the 131st staging of the Senior Championships and the name this year marks the centenary of Eric Liddell‘s famous gold medal in the 1924 Olympics in Paris.
Event entries and the athlete numbers for the weekend were high again, with 1,145 entries, and, with 616 athletes, the under-17 championships were especially competitive.
As the only TEL under-17 women’s representative, Charlotte Little completed her 100m sprint in 14.57s.
And in the under-17 men's events, Fraser Lupton took the silver in the 800m with his time of 1m59.23s.
Thomas Gornall achieved a personal best in his 1,500m steeplechase and came fifth in his time of 5m05.97s.
The 1,500m race saw Joe Smith finish in 4m22.27s and Elliot Cameron come in at 4m59.29s.
The senior women saw Kerry Morris competing in the 100m, finishing in 13.25s, and coming seventh in the long jump with her jump of 5.12m before finishing fifth, with a personal best of 10.05m, in the triple jump, which she had only competed in once before.
Laura Buchan was placed sixth in the long jump with a personal-best jump of 5.41m, and she took the bronze in the triple jump with another personal best of 11.37m.
The senior men’s 100m saw Oliver Little make his competitive debut in the 100m with a personal-best performance of 12.56s.
And Alister Mackay had a busy weekend, taking home a silver in the 110m hurdles in a personal-best time of 15.38s, finishing ninth in his long jump with 6.53m and achieving the gold in pole vault with his personal-best height of 4.35m.
