IT WAS a weekend of few goals for East Lothian’s six county football teams.

Only Tranent managed to find the net on more than one occasion on Saturday while Preston Athletic were the only other side picking up a win.

Former Hibs and Edinburgh City defender Ben Stirling opened the scoring for Tranent, who led Civil Service Strollers 1-0 at the half time interval.

The visitors found an equaliser through Mackie Scott on 62 minutes but Tranent found the net twice in the final 10 minutes to seal the win.

First, Euan Bauld headed home and then Adam McGowan curled home a decisive third in stoppage time.

In the top flight of the East of Scotland Football League, Haddington Athletic and Dunbar United could not be separated.

The derby clash at Millfield finished goalless, with neither team able to find a breakthrough.

Meanwhile, the spoils were also shared when Musselburgh Athletic visited Penicuik for the second consecutive weekend.

Musselburgh had triumphed in the Scottish Cup seven days ago but found themselves behind thanks to Liam Gray’s goal with 13 minutes left.

Jackson Barker’s goal five minutes from time pulled Musselburgh level but neither team could find a winner.

In the First Division, Preston Athletic got off to a winning start under new manager Stevie McLeish.

Kieron Jack’s strike five minutes from time was enough to give them three points at Whitehill Welfare.

Finally, Ormiston Primrose went down 3-1 at Newburgh.

The hosts were 2-0 up before Adam Laidlaw pulled one back.

Ormiston pushed for a leveller but it was Newburgh who found the decisive fourth goal of the game.

This weekend, all attention is on the second round of the South Challenge Cup.

East Kilbride host Tranent in an all-Lowland League contest at K Park.

Meanwhile, Haddington Athletic welcome Kilsyth Athletic and Ormiston Primrose host former SPFL stalwarts Cowdenbeath.

Each of Dunbar United, Musselburgh Athletic and Preston Athletic must overcome away trips if they are to reach the third round.

Dunbar head west to face Troon while Musselburgh are on a similar route as they take on Saltcoats Victoria.

Preston Athletic face fellow East of Scotland Football League side Vale of Leithen.
