THREE of East Lothian’s rugby clubs get the new season under way tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon.

Musselburgh open their Premiership campaign with a trip to Glasgow Hawks.

The Honest Toun team enjoyed a season to remember last season and ended up sixth in the top-flight table.

Their opposition finished two places and eight points behind them in the standings.

The two meetings proved tight affairs, though.

Eighty-four points were shared equally in a thrilling contest at Stoneyhill in mid-October.

Then, in January, Musselburgh won by just two points as they triumphed 29-27 in the west.

Another tight contest could be on the cards, with both sides looking to get off to the best possible start.

Meanwhile, North Berwick and Preston Lodge both begin their seasons in the National League Cup.

North Berwick, who play in National League Division Four, host Lasswade at Recreation Park.

The county side were comfortably in mid-table in what proved an inconsistent campaign with 10 wins and eight defeats.

Their opponents play two tiers above them in the Scottish Rugby pyramid and will be out to pick up the win in a group that also involves Linlithgow.

Finally, Preston Lodge had a season to remember as they were promoted back to National League Division Two at the first time of asking.

They open their campaign against Berwick, who will also be playing their club rugby in the same division this season.

Stewart’s Melville are the third team in their group.

Meanwhile, Haddington, Ross High and Dunbar, who play in the East Region, begin their season next Saturday (September 7).
