A NEW manager could be in the Tranent dugout within a matter of weeks.

Ian Little left the club earlier this month after almost a year in charge.

Since then, Jonny Stewart and Matthew Thomson have been at the helm and guided the club to three wins in three games.

Brian Johnston, chairman of the Foresters Park side, told Courier Sport that the matter of a permanent manager would be discussed at the club’s next board meeting on Tuesday.

He said: “It is just ongoing and will be discussed at the next board meeting.

“We will probably look to have somebody in charge in the first couple of weeks of September.”

The club made it three wins in a row on Saturday when they ended Edinburgh University’s hopes of East of Scotland (Qualifying) Cup glory with a 7-0 demolition.

The game in the Capital saw Stewart assisted by team-mate Ross Gray.

The win came just over a week after Tranent inflicted Heart of Midlothian B’s first defeat of the Scottish Lowland Football League season.

Mr Johnston said that the possibility of former Bonnyrigg Rose midfielder Stewart remaining as manager had not been ruled out or included.

He was also hopeful that Little, who guided the club to the Scottish Lowland Football League Cup with victory over East Kilbride, could return to the club in some capacity.

The chairman said: “We just felt we had got away to a poor start with one point out of six and that we should be doing better.

“It was fairly amicable the split and Ian understands our reasons.

“He volunteered to help in our recruitment process for a new boss.

“There were no hard feelings and I still see him becoming part of the club in some capacity.”
