IT PROVED a weekend to forget for East Lothian’s senior football teams.

While Tranent picked up victory on Friday night, only Dunbar United managed to achieve a positive result the following day.

The Seasiders drew at home to St Andrews United but there were first league defeats of the season for both Musselburgh Athletic and Haddington Athletic in the East of Scotland Football League (EoSFL) Premier Division.

Liam Burns and his side lost 3-2 at Dunipace while Jeanfield Swifts came out on top 4-1 at Millfield.

Meanwhile, in the First Division, Camelon inflicted a 3-0 defeat on Preston Athletic and Ormiston Primrose’s Alex Jack Cup journey was halted at the first hurdle by Oakley United, who won 4-0.

On Friday, Tranent travelled into Edinburgh to face Hearts B in the Scottish Lowland Football League (SLFL).

A Dean Brett penalty was all that separated the two sides over 90 minutes and pushed Tranent up to seventh in the table.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, a Lewis Craig effort had St Andrews United 1-0 up at the interval at New Countess Park.

However, Grant Thomson popped up with a leveller just eight minutes after the restart.

Musselburgh were edged out by the odd goal in five at Dunipace, who took an early lead through Martin France in an action-packed opening 20 minutes.

Strikes from Jamie Todd and Jonny Court then had the visitors in front before Conor Kelly equalised for the hosts.

A Kelly penalty on the hour mark proved decisive as Musselburgh lost out.

Meanwhile, at Millfield, Jeanfield Swifts showed why they will likely be title contenders as they defeated Haddington.

Jamie Reid and a penalty from Rhys Davies had the visitors two goals up at the half time interval.

Then, a double from Archie Campbell midway through the second half killed the game.

An impressive free-kick from Riley Haston in the third minute of stoppage time proved just a consolation for the Hi Hi.

Preston’s hopes of building on an impressive win at Thornton Hibs were dented by Camelon.

Goals from Marc McKenzie, Scott Sinclair and Graham Taylor gave the visitors to the Pennypit a 3-0 win.

Finally, Oakley United proved too strong over the 90 minutes for Ormiston Primrose.

The visitors held a 1-0 half time lead at New Recreation Park but pulled away after the break to ease through to the second round.
