PRESTON Athletic captain Craig Innes toasted a decade with his local club with victory over a Hibernian XI on Saturday.
The lifelong Hibs fan led the teams out at the Pennypit for his testimonial.
Strikes from Neilson Combe and Michael McFarlane helped the hosts to a 2-1 victory against a visiting team featuring Rory Whittaker, Allan Delferriere and Josh O’Connor – son of former Scotland stay Garry – who have all played first-team football for Hibs.
Preston are back at the Pennypit on Saturday when they host West Calder United.
Elsewhere, Dunbar United continued their pre-season preparations with a 3-2 victory over former SPFL stalwarts Cowdenbeath.
An own goal from Mark McConnell had given the hosts the lead but the experienced defender redeemed himself with a quickfire equaliser. Gregor Goldie had Dunbar in front midway through the first half before Robbie McNab equalised for Cowdenbeath. The winning goal came on 67 minutes when Dean Whitson found the net.
Dunbar were back in action on Tuesday when they hosted Tranent at New Countess Park.
First-half goals from Guy McGarry and Euan Bauld had the visitors 2-0 up and Adam McGowan added a third after the break.
On Saturday, Dunbar travel south of the Border to take on Newcastle Benfield.
Tranent continued their own Lowland League build-up when they travelled to Ayrshire to take on former Junior heavyweights Auchinleck Talbot. It was the West of Scotland Football League Premier Division side who came out on top, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Kyle McAvoy and Ross Clark.
Musselburgh Athletic travelled to Whitehill Welfare on Tuesday evening, having seen their scheduled clash with Broomhill on Saturday fall through.
Nicky Reid and Matthew Knox had Musselburgh two up at the break, and new signing Gabri Auriemma and Jackson Barker scored in the second half.
Liam Burns’ side head to Edinburgh to face Civil Service Strollers this weekend.
Haddington Athletic made the trip south to face Berwick Rangers on Saturday.
Gary Windram had given the visitors the lead after just six minutes, but veteran hitman Liam Buchanan levelled from the penalty spot three minutes later and had Berwick in front midway through the first half.
Former Haddington loanee Arran Laidlaw extended the lead before Tom Davies pulled one back just before the interval, but Matthew Collins scored on the stroke of half-time and Buchanan completed his hat-trick after the break, Keir Russell’s late goal a mere consolation in the 5-3 home win.
The Hi Hi take on Civil Service Strollers this evening (Thursday) at Millfield in a 7.30pm kick-off before facing Pollok on Saturday.
Finally, Ormiston Primrose had their second pre-season friendly on Tuesday when they went down 5-0 to Heriot Watt University. The county side face Vale of Leithen this weekend.
