EAST Lothian bowlers completed their qualification journey at the District 17 finals at the weekend, writes Matt Osborne.

The ladies took centre stage on Saturday as Tranent Bowling Club’s Kim Hoggan sealed the singles title with a 21-6 win over Ali Carswell.

Sisters Leanne Watt and Lauren Baillie-Whyte will be looking to emulate their 2014 national title run after claiming the ladies’ pairs titles.

Macmerry trio Mo Bryson, Gill Bryson and Irene Bryson will have to abandon their supporters’ post for this season as they represent East Lothian in the triples.

Chloe McMillan, Emily Johnston, Lucy Walker and Yvonne Veitch claimed the ladies’ fours title for Ormiston Bowling Club.

There was double success for Veitch as she also took home the over-55s ladies’ singles crown.

Home side East Linton claimed the over-55 ladies’ fours title, scoring the last three ends to pip Haddington to qualification.

On Sunday morning’s early session, Gordon Hunter was crowned over-55s singles champion to complete a highly impressive qualification run against Haddington club-mate Andy Burt.

East Linton made it a club double in the over-55 fours as they saw off the challenge of Prestongrange.

In the afternoon session, Kieran Dodds claimed the gents’ district singles, defeating EL Co-op club-mate Brian Forbes Jnr in the showpiece finale.

Aberlady won the gents’ fours over Ormiston to book their place in Ayr next month.

Tranent completed the national qualifying line-up with victory in the triples over Port Seton.

The junior singles and pairs will be played at a later date due to a clash of events and player availability.
