MUSSELBURGH Windsor bounced back from penalty shootout heartache to lift a cup at the weekend.
The club contested the final of the David Innes Cup last Wednesday in Edinburgh.
However, the under-14s Musselburgh Windsor Whites were denied in cruel fashion as they lost 4-3 on penalties to Craigroyston after the score was locked at 1-1 at the end of regulation time.
But on Sunday, Musselburgh Windsor Whites’ under-16s side lifted the Chairman’s Cup with a dominant 4-0 win over Edinburgh City Whites at Dalkeith.
A strike from Finlay Duncan gave the older Musselburgh side a half-time lead after 40 minutes.
After the break, good work on the left from Finley Leslie forced the opposition into an own goal before a double from Tyler Wyllie ensured that the trophy was heading back to Musselburgh.
Iain McDougall, head coach of the cup winners, said: “It was fantastic.
“It was probably the last opportunity for the boys to win something this year, so it was good to get the win.
“We knew we were in a final from about January so it has been a long time. It was a great performance from the boys.”
There could be more cup success for county sides over the coming week.
North Berwick’s under-15s enjoyed success against Corstorphine Dynamo in the final of the Fife and Lothians Cup yesterday evening (Wednesday), winning 5-0.
Meanwhile, Musselburgh Windsor and Bonnyrigg Rose face each other at Hallhill in Dunbar on Sunday for the under-16s South East Region Cup.
Next Thursday (May 23), Musselburgh Windsor’s under-15s look to lift the Federation of Hearts Cup when they play Lochend FA at Tynecastle Stadium.
