ONE of the biggest social events of Musselburgh RFC’s calendar takes place this weekend.
The Premiership club holds its annual sevens event at Stoneyhill tomorrow (Saturday).
Among those looking to lift the Brunton Cup are a number of local teams, clubs from Edinburgh and a side from south of the Border.
Musselburgh last lifted their home trophy in 2019, with Heriots the reigning champions.
Brian Jardine, president for the club, said: “I can’t wait for Saturday to come round.
“Our sevens tournament at Stoneyhill is such a great way to finish our season.

“It is a great family occasion, and it gives the players and their families a chance to celebrate this very successful season together.
“The players are on a high after their best finish in the league and on winning their last two sevens tournaments at North Berwick and Haddington – it would be nice if they could carry on their success at our own tournament.
“We are delighted to have most of the East Lothian teams competing but I must thank Highland for making the long trip down from Inverness again.
“Also, we are delighted to have King’s College Hospital, who are up touring from London, joining us for the tournament.
“I just hope the weather is kind to us and I look forward to seeing a large crowd at Stoneyhill at the weekend.”
Twelve clubs have signed up for the tournament, which kicks off at 1pm.
The final is due to start at about 6pm and entry on the day is £5.
Off the field, there will be music, food vans and an outdoor bar.
