ONE of the longest-running sevens tournaments in the world returns this weekend.
Haddington RFC’s annual event, thought to be the 10th oldest surviving sevens tournament in the world, takes place at Neilson Park tomorrow (Saturday).
More than 16 teams have been confirmed for the tournament, which kicks off at 1pm.
Bill Swan, former committee member at the club, said: “Post-Covid, it has been a struggle to get the momentum back. We have been working really hard to get the sevens back up and running.
“One of the key things is that it is our centenary sevens in 2026, which is quite a big milestone.
“It is one of the oldest sevens competitions and we wanted to get it back and firmly established on the calendar ahead of the centenary.”
Among those expected to compete are Hamilton, East Kilbride and Peebles, as well as sides representing Musselburgh, Dunbar, North Berwick and the host club.
Off the park, there will be a barbecue and hog roast, as well as outside bars.
Live music will also be provided by Norrie Innes from 6.30pm.
Mr Swan added: “All the bits are falling nicely into place – all we need is the weather!”
