TWO tries from Michael Badenhorst helped Edinburgh to the narrowest of wins in the second round of the Inter-District Championship.
The Capital squad featured five East Lothian players, with Badenhorst joined in the starting line-up by Musselburgh team-mate Rory Hindhaugh.
Clubmates Danny Owenson and Rory Watt were named on the bench, while Preston Lodge’s Scott Clark started.
And there were familiar faces in the Caledonia Reds squad as well.
Ross Brown (Musselburgh/Ellon) and Fionnlagh McCall (Musselburgh/Highland) were among the replacements.
It proved an eventful game at Raeburn Place in Edinburgh, with 11 tries scored along the way.
Badenhorst scored before the break, when Caledonia led 21-15 and helped narrow the gap to a single point with a try after the restart.
Owenson came off the bench for Edinburgh and helped turn the game in their favour.
He added the conversion to Jamie Sole’s try late on to narrow the gap to just six points.
Then, when Stu Allison scored between the sticks, Owenson was left with scoring the pressure kick to give them a 34-33 win.
Coach Bob McKillop was hopeful they could end the campaign strongly when they travel to Glasgow this weekend.
He said: “We were very disappointed after last week and our aim for today was to go into the final weekend with a chance of being in the mix.
“So, mission accomplished by the skin of our teeth.”
