A TITLE-WINNING midfielder has urged his team-mates to write their names into the history books.
Falkirk clinched the League One title with a 7-1 thumping of Montrose on Saturday evening to end a five-year stay in the third tier of Scottish football.
Now, with 25 wins and six draws from their 31 league encounters, Liam Henderson is calling on his team to become ‘The Invincibles’ and end the league season unbeaten.
He said: “We are all on the same hymn sheet and want to go and get the invincible status.
“We want to get it done and the boys in the dressing room are all the same.
“Nobody is slacking off and we have got five more games to try to win.”
Henderson has featured in 36 of Falkirk’s 41 games this season, with the club’s only defeats coming to Dundee United, Bonnyrigg Rose and The New Saints in cup competitions.
Nearest challengers for the League One crown Hamilton Academical went into their clash with Queen of the South on Saturday knowing they needed a win to keep alive their slim chances of overhauling Falkirk.
However, when the final whistle blew on a goalless draw at New Douglas Park it handed the title to the Bairns before they even kicked off in Angus.
Henderson, who watched the game from the sidelines after suffering a calf injury a fortnight ago, was delighted with the success.
He said: “It was really, really good – different class.
“It was quite a surreal moment to win the league before the game.
“It was quite weird.
“Boys had to go out and play and try to focus on the game.
“We wanted to get the job done and put on a show for the fans.
“It was a weird situation but one we will remember for the rest of our lives.”
Henderson, who grew up in Port Seton and now lives in Macmerry, joined the club for a second spell after leaving Arbroath two years ago.
The 27-year-old is joined at The Falkirk Stadium by Sean Mackie, from Elphinstone, and Coll Donaldson, who grew up in North Berwick.
Also linking up with the two-time Scottish Cup winners is former North Berwick High School pupil Keelan Adams, who will join next season after impressing with Cumbernauld Colts.
Leading the team is Musselburgh-born John McGlynn, who played for and managed the Honest Toun team.
Now, Henderson, who recently signed a new two-year deal with the Bairns, is looking to help the club cement its place back in the Championship.
He said: “I remember the first time I was here, when I was a bit younger, Peter Houston was the manager. They were in the Championship and doing really well.
“We got to the play-offs and were really pushing to go back into the Premier Division, where a lot of people think the club belongs.
“For Falkirk to be in League One for five years is not great financially for the club or for the fans.
“We wanted to get back into the Championship and kick on in the league.”
