NINETY minutes separate Tranent from the chance of winning their first cup competition as a senior club.
The Belters, who won the East of Scotland Football League Premier Division in 2022, face off against East Kilbride in the final of the Lowland League Cup tomorrow (Sunday).
The match, which is being played at Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld, pits the two sides against each other for the second weekend in a row.
The Lanarkshire side were 2-1 winners at Foresters Park on Saturday in the semi-finals of the South Challenge Cup.
Ian Little, Tranent manager, felt that would have little bearing on the result this weekend.
He said: “Saturday was just a wee bit disappointing. We had good spells in the game but when they went down to 10 men we did not seem to capitalise and push forward.
“It will not really make any difference for this week.
“Both clubs have got players back. They had a lot of boys cup-tied and so did we. It will be a totally different game on a bigger pitch and on Astroturf.”
The two sides have faced each other on three occasions this term.
Four goals from Cammie Ross, along with a Broque Watson brace and a Kallum Higginbotham strike, gave Tranent a memorable 7-0 triumph in the Scottish Cup.
A late turnaround at K Park then gave East Kilbride all three points in the Lowland League when they scored three times in the final 14 minutes to win 3-2.
Little was sure that his team would be ready for the chance to bring home silverware in the 3pm kick-off.
He said: “Both clubs know each other inside out and it is about who turns up on the day.
“We have just got to make sure everybody is playing 100 per cent.
“I just felt we were maybe slightly off a wee bit on Saturday. We did not manage to get the equaliser.
“One of their goals was offside in the build-up but you cannot mump and moan. I certainly think you need a wee bit of luck and it would be good to get it on Sunday and great to take the trophy home.”
