WILDCARD entry Alex Marshall will tomorrow play for a spot in the World Indoor Bowls Championships final following another dramatic victory.

This afternoon the record-breaking six-time champion beat world number two Les Gillett 2-1 in a tie-break after the pair shared the first two sets of their singles quarter-final.

On the portable rink at Potters Holiday Resort, Norfolk, Gillett won the first set 8-4 before Marshall found his rhythm in the second (3-8) to force the tie-breaker.

Marshall, who before his tie-break win yesterday over New Zealand's Martin Kreft was ranked outside the world's top 16, was a sponsor's pick.

He said after his win over Gillett: "I've already thanked Judy Potter [of Potters Holiday Resort] for inviting me along; it's a five-star resort and a pleasure and a privilege to play against all these great players.

"If I can play like I did [against Les] then I've got a chance [in the last four]. I've been playing a lot in Australia for quite a few years but it's great to be back in the semi-finals here. I'm really looking forward to it."

The first set swung on an incredible four shots picked up on the eighth end by Gillett with his last bowl . . . with Marshall lying two.

"That was a real heart-sinker - I felt like walking out the stadium," joked Marshall afterwards.

"Les played some fantastic bowls to win the first set."

And Gillett added: "Alex came onto a game and played some bombs in the second set. It was a great game and I think we entertained the crowd. I think they enjoyed it."

Marshall will play good friend and countryman Paul Foster in tomorrow's semi-final.

The other semi-final features Scotland's Stewart Anderson and Harry Goodwin, of England. The matches are live on the BBC, as is Sunday's final.
