TEENAGE racing starlet Adon Davie has vowed to come back even stronger after finishing just seven points off a podium place in his debut campaign.
The Prestonpans racer made the step up to the Supersport Cup and enjoyed a memorable first season.
Now, with the chequered flag being waved last weekend, he is already looking forward to a busy close season to ensure he is ready to race come next spring.
He said: “A few things were out of our control and hampered what could have been good results.
“The highlight was the double win at Knockhill – that was the highlight of the season.
“When we look at where it started to where it finished and the potential, I’m really happy with the progress we have made.
“We have learnt what to put into use for next season.
“It was our first year in the Supersport Cup and it was a massive step up.
“Obviously, Knockhill is a bit of a luxury because we don’t have to book hotels and we can come home at night.
“When we went to Brands Hatch, we could not take the van because it is my dad that is insured to drive it.
“We had to take my car and it was about a seven-hour drive to get there.
“It is a bit of a nightmare, especially when the people that live down south are only an hour or two away from a track.”
The final event of the season took place at Brands Hatch and saw former Preston Lodge High School pupil Davie add to his impressive resume.
Fourth and third place finishes in the final two rounds meant he finished no lower than fifth over the 22 races.
In total, he took three wins – a double success at Knockhill and a victory Oulton Park last month – as well as three seconds and two thirds.
And while some might think that the end of the season brings a chance to relax and put the feet up, the young racer has a busy few months ahead.
He told Courier Sport: “Even though the season only finished last weekend, I am looking forward to next year.
“Everything I have learnt, being on track with World Championship level riders, it is really exciting to put it to use next year.
“Everything the team has learnt as well, it has been a big learning curve and we will put it to good use next year.
“All going well and sponsorship depending, the intention is to stay in the same category on the same bike as well.
“It is that hard time of year where you are going round sponsors again.
“This time of year is mostly trying to find sponsorship or sell advertising space on your bike, on your leathers, on your helmet or social media to help fund the season.
“Also, there is quite a lot to do with the bike – a full engine rebuild over the winter, and we will start working on that and planning any sort of testing.”
Davie, who has been racing bikes since he was just seven years old, also has his own fitness to maintain.
He has signed up for the Edinburgh Marathon at the end of May and will be doing plenty of running over the next seven months.
However, his first love remains on two wheels on the track.
Davie, who works at Musselburgh’s Tesco store, said: “I would not say I am a particularly sporty person in general.
“I think I have got a hidden competitive edge that comes out and I put it to use in bike racing.
“I have done it since I was seven and is all I have known.
“It is part of my life and I find it strange to think I could be doing anything else with my weekends.”
