THE county’s finest young swimmers travelled north to compete in the Scottish Summer Meet at the Aberdeen Aquatics Centre.
The event attracted the best athletes from across the nation, with East Lothian Swim Team (ELST) taking 24 swimmers to the Granite City and returning home with 35 individual medals.
The girls’ medal winners were:
- Eilidh Armstrong (17-18 years) – two silvers in the 100m and 200m backstroke events;
- Tegan Black (16 years) – six medals in total, two golds (200m Individual Medley (IM) and 400m freestyle) and four silvers in the 100m, 200m, 400m and 1,500m freestyle events;
- Anna Lawson (14 years) – two gold medals in the 50m and 100m freestyle events, breaking the East District record in the 50m event with a time of 27.04 seconds;
- Ava Marko (14 years) – silver in the 100m butterfly.
- India Marshall (17-18 years) – gold in the 400m IM and two bronze medals in the 800m and 1,500m freestyle events.
- Caitlin Peebles (16 years) – bronze in the 100m backstroke.
- Helen Stoddart (16 years) – gold in the 50m butterfly.
The boys had an equally impressive meet, the medallists being:
- Ross Anderton (15 years) – a gold and two silvers in the butterfly events (200m, 50m and 100m) and a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle;
- Conner Aspinall (14 years) – Seven gold medals, five in the freestyle events (100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1,500m) and two in the 200m and 400 IM events;
- Zach Slater (16 years) – Four golds (100m and 200m butterfly and 400m and 800m freestyle) and one silver in the 50m butterfly;
- Owen Williamson (17-18 years) – A gold, silver, and a bronze medal in the 800m freestyle, 100m and 50m backstroke events, respectively.
Katie Anderton, Eilidh Fee, Grace Hanak, Lewis Lothian, and Alex Taylor all swam well to secure individual finals, with many making multiple finals.
Jamie Ward, ELST head coach, was was delighted with the squad’s efforts. He said: “Scottish Summer Meet marks the end of the season for a number of our athletes and is a benchmark we base our next season against.
"We have come away from Aberdeen delighted with the results but even more delighted with how our athletes showed great team support by cheering each other on throughout the meet.”
