AN ANNUAL competition which brings more than 400 competitors to North Berwick has proven a smash hit.
Tennis Scotland recently held its annual awards ceremony, with the East Lothian Open being crowned Competition of the Year.
The annual tournament, which takes place in July, dates back to 1927 and attracts competitors from all over the world.
Every year, members of North Berwick Tennis Club give up a week of their summer tennis to hold the event.
Blane Dodds, Tennis Scotland chief executive, wished the winners well at the LTA British Awards.
He said: “I would like to extend my congratulations to every winner at this year’s Tennis Scotland Awards, and thank all who do so much for Scottish tennis and who celebrated the awards with us in person at the Stirling Court Hotel. As the Scottish governing body, we are grateful for the individuals and organisations that have played their part in growing and developing tennis across Scotland over the last year.
“With record numbers of members within our club network and record entries at many competitions, there is real momentum in Scottish tennis, and we look forward to further developments in 2023.”
The East Lothian Open finished as runner-up at the LTA national awards in 2020.
