FOUR young swimmers from East Lothian Swim Team (ELST) headed south last week for the British Swimming Championships in Sheffield.
Stefan Krawiec competed in five events (100m and 200m butterfly, 100m and 200m freestyle and 200m individual medley (IM)).
Luke Hornsey took part in three events (400m, 800m and 1,500m freestyle), while Zara Krawiec (400m IM) and Calum Peebles (200m backstroke) competed in one each.
Stefan qualified for four finals, finishing fifth in the 100m fly ‘B’ with a new Scottish Junior Long Course record of 54.56s.
Luke had an exhausting week, swimming in the distance freestyle events. He finished seventh in the junior final of the 400m freestyle, taking more than three seconds off his personal best (PB) in the heats (4m3.17s).
Zara and Calum both swam well in their events, with both achieving PBs in their heats.
Zara took over three seconds off her 400m IM PB (5m7.28s) and Calum nearly two seconds off his 200m back PB (2m9.27s).
Danny Kirkham, ELST performance squad coach, said: “Qualifying for the British Swimming Championships is an amazing achievement for these incredibly talented swimmers, and a real testament for all the hard work they put into training.
“I could not have been prouder of their efforts.
“They were a credit to themselves, their family and their team.”
