A BROTHER-and-sister duo have made a splash to help East Lothian Swim Team (ELST) clinch nearly 30 medals at the third round of the East District Championships.
ELST, which is made up of top young swimmers from Haddington, Musselburgh and Tranent swim clubs, were in impressive form at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh over the weekend.
Stefan and Zara Krawiec were at the heart of the gold rush at the event, which is the final round of the championships, claiming victory in all their finals.
There were 100m events across all the strokes (freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and breaststroke) as well as the 200m individual medley (IM) and relay events.
The boys’ medal winners were as follows: l In the 14-years’ age group, Conner Aspinall (Haddington) was impressive in winning two golds and two silvers;
- Ross Anderton (Tranent) was in great form, winning one gold and three silvers in the 15-year-old age group;
- Zach Slater (Musselburgh) also had a superb meet, winning two gold and two silver medals in the 16-years’ age group;
- Stefan Krawiec (Tranent) won gold medals in all five events in the 17-years-and-over age group. In the same age group, Luke Hornsey (Musselburgh) picked up a silver medal.
The girls had an equally impressive medal haul:
- In the 13-years’ age group, Eilidh Fee (Tranent) won a bronze medal;
- Zara Krawiec (Tranent) matched her brother’s achievement by winning five gold medals in the 14-years’ age group. In the same age group, Anna Lawson and Ava Marko (both Musselburgh) also picked up medals.
- Tegan Black (Tranent) enjoyed success in the 16-years’ age group, winning two silver medals.
- In the 17-years-and-over age group, Eilidh Armstrong (Musselburgh) won a bronze medal.
Aspinall, Anderson, Slater and both Stefan and Zara Krawiec all picked up the top boy/girl award in their respective age groups over the three rounds of the championships.
As well as the medallists, the following swimmers performed extremely well to make finals, in an event that caters for the very best age group swimmers from across the Lothians and Borders and Fife: Joel Begg, Findlay Brown, Abby Davis, Boyd Fearnside, Lucy Hall, Grace Hanak, Roni Kariuki, Declan Kay, Lewis Lothian, Carly Marshall, Kirsty Sievwright, Helen Stoddart, Alex Taylor, Isla Whetton, Owen Williamson and Ross Winters.
ELST’s attention now turns to the Scottish National Age Group Championship (SNAGs), being held from April 12 to 16 in Aberdeen.
Jamie Ward, ELST head coach, was looking forward to the team’s next event.
He said: “I am delighted with the performances this weekend and once again we have shown the strength we have across the team.
“A number of our athletes are currently in very heavy training with a focus on SNAGs, making these performances even more impressive.”
