JUDOKA Hannah Wood has been forced to pull out of the Commonwealth Games through injury, just over a week before the competition gets under way.
The Tranent athlete was one of five women named in Team Scotland’s squad for the sport last month.
However, yesterday (Wednesday), JudoScotland confirmed that she was unable to compete at Coventry Arena between August 1 and 3.
Wood was due to represent Scotland in the -52 kilogramme category.
Judith McCleary, JudoScotland CEO, said: “Although this news is disappointing, especially so close to the games, ensuring an athlete’s welfare is always the most important thing.
“I would like to wish Hannah a speedy recovery and I look forward to seeing what she will achieve in her judo career in the future.”
JudoScotland is working with Commonwealth Games Scotland to confirm a replacement athlete, with more details to follow soon.
East Lothian has a number of representatives at the international event.
