GARY Anderson has reached the third round of the PDC World Darts Championship after a scintillating comeback victory over Adrian Lewis.
‘The Flying Scotsman’ got off to a shaky start yesterday (Thursday) evening as Lewis began in confident fashion by taking the first set.
However, Anderson came firing back in the battle of the two-time champions, claiming nine of the next 10 legs to send him through 3-1.
Fifty-year-old Anderson holds an enviable record of never having lost his first match at the World Championship.
The Musselburgh native will now face either Ian White or Chris Landman, who play on Saturday.
Third round contests at Alexandra Palace get under way on December 27 as Anderson looks to claim his third world title.
Anderson won his first world title in 2015 with a memorable 7-6 triumph over darts legend Phil Taylor.
He then went on to retain his title the following year with a 7-5 win over Lewis.
Anderson has also reached three finals – losing 7-5 to Lewis in 2011, 7-3 to Michael van Gerwen in 2017 and 7-3 to Gerwyn Price in last year's final.
