MUSSELBURGH-BORN Gary Anderson begins his quest for a third world title this evening (Thursday).
The darts star has been handed a tough draw at Alexandra Palace as he faces off against fellow two-time PDC World Darts Champion Adrian Lewis.
Anderson, who turns 51 later this month, was handed a bye to the second round of the competition.
Meanwhile, Lewis was a 3-1 winner over Matt Campbell yesterday (Wednesday) in the opening round.
Sixth seed Anderson has one of the most impressive records at the championship.
He won his first world title in 2015 with a nail-biting 7-6 triumph over darts legend Phil Taylor.
Twelve months later, he followed that up with a 7-5 triumph over Lewis, who won the title in 2011 – defeating Anderson by the same scoreline – and 2012.
Anderson has also finished as runner-up on three occasions – losing 7-3 to Michael van Gerwen in 2017 and by the same score in last year’s final to Gerwyn Price, as well as the loss to Lewis.
The match is screened on Sky Sports.
