A DUNBAR Primary School pupil has taken part in a prestigious motor racing event.
Cristina Palmer has been touring the UK as part of this year’s Arenacross event, with the Dunbar Primary School pupil performing in front of crowds of up to 13,500 fans.
The 10-year-old, who lives near Dunbar, has competed in Motocross for five years, and is current north of England XC champion, but said she was “a tiny bit nervous” as she turned her attentions to Arenacross for the first time.
She was the only girl competing in the event, and was in the 65cc class, and she took to the Arenacross track for each of the six meetings in the series.
That took the 10-year-old and dad Steven to Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham, Belfast, Sheffield and London, with Cristina having to adjust to the different conditions for each event.
Cristina improved her riding skills throughout the tour, becoming quicker throughout the event, culminating with a sixth-place finish in the first race at the final round at Wembley.
That saw the county starlet, who was a fans’ favourite throughout the series, claim an eighth-place finish overall, much to the delight of her proud dad.
He said afterwards: “It really has been a brilliant experience and the crowds have really loved her.
“I think some people thought she was there to follow round the boys but she really stuck with them. We are really proud of her.”
