NEW Musselburgh Athletic manager Calvin Shand has recruited a former club captain as his assistant manager.
Kevin McDonald was Burgh's club captain two seasons ago, but missed the majority of the campaign with a serious knee injury as the club reached the Scottish Junior Cup final.
He took up a coaching role with former boss Stevie McLeish during his time on the sidelines, and even took up a column for Courier Sport ahead of the match with Auchinleck Talbot, which included writing a poem to his team-mates.
The popular Geordie's return to Olive Bank under new boss Calvin Shand was confirmed by the club through its new-look website.
A statement read: "Calvin will be assisted by another former Burgh favourite Kevin McDonald.
"Calvin and Kevin have been working tirelessly to get a squad together for the forthcoming season."
The club has retained just one player, midfielder Jed Davie, from last season's squad, while a number of new faces have been added to the ranks.
Sean Murphy has signed up at Olive Bank from Leith Athletic, while a quartet of new faces join from Newtongrange Star.
John McManus, Alistair Forster, Gary Cherrie and David Dunn have all agreed terms at Olive Bank over the weekend.
Two more names were added on Monday, with the additions of Linlithgow Rose's Chris Gray and Connor Spowart, from Dalkeith Thistle.
The half-dozen new faces will join some returning favourites among Shand's Burgh squad.
Goalkeeper Kieron Renton, strikers Conor Thomson and Ewan Ralton, and Michael Moffat all return to the club.
New boss Shand said it had been a difficult start to life as Burgh boss.
He said: "When you come into a club with only one player signed, it is a bit strange.
"We have been working hard to get players in and we're starting to assemble a squad that has both youth and experience."
