LAST week, I had the pleasure of attending the latest meeting of North Berwick Rotary Club at the beautiful setting of Glen Golf Club.
I heard about a wonderful project based in Burkina Faso called Myra's Wells, which has helped deliver wells all over the country.
Rotary clubs rely on the the work of their volunteers. So what is Rotary and what do they do? They are like-minded ordinary people who like to help in our community, locally, nationally and internationally.
They organise many fundraising events during the year to help others in need and help with local stewarding, parking or general tidying-up, like their monthly beach clean.
They raised over £40,000 last year, with much of the money raised going to local organisations. They meet each Tuesday at 6pm in the Glen Golf Club clubhouse and anyone wishing to pop along would be made most welcome.
They are hosting an awareness afternoon about Rotary on Saturday, October 19, 2-4pm at the Recreation Hall (Rec) in Gullane.
If you have ever thought about helping in your local community or even if you want to meet some new friends, please do come along and meet them. Please contact Bruce Wilson, North Berwick Rotary Club, at bruceandvalerie@btinternet.com
This week has also seen anti-racism protests take place all over Scotland and the UK – this was to counteract the false narrative of the likes of Nigel Farage, Tommy Robinson and Elon Musk.
We must continue to be vigilant against the thuggery that's been seen in cities in England and Northern Ireland under the false guise of protest.
