With the spring and summer upon us, many will be looking to explore some of Scotland's most scenic walking routes - including the John Muir Way.
This long-distance route which runs from Helensburgh to Dunbar has long been a popular trail for people across Scotland.
If you're looking to complete this walking route over the spring and summer months, here is everything you need to know about it.
Who is John Muir and why is there a route named after him?
The route is named in honour of the famousconservationist John Muir who was born in Dunbar in 1838.
He founded the United States National Park Service - a government agency in America responsible for the country's national parks, national monuments and other natural and historical properties.
The John Muir Way was opened on April 21, 2014. Previously, a shorter route existed only in East Lothian but much of this has been absorbed into the longer one.
A shorter section of the route from Dunbar to the Scottish Borders has been named the John Muir Link.
How long is the John Muir Way and how many days does it take to complete?
The route is around 134 miles (215km) in length and takes around 9 to 11 days to complete, according to the John Muir Way website.
A number of markers are en route to ensure walkers don't get lost or take a wrong turn.

What is the John Muir Way Ultra marathon and how do I take part?
The John Muir Ultra is a 50km marathon that takes place in East Lothian annually. The route does not encompass the John Muir Way and instead takes place on a smaller set track.
Those looking to take part in the upcoming Nocturnal Ultra Marathon and Team Relay on Saturday, November 9, 2024, can sign up on the John Muir Ultra website.
The 50km marathon will next take place on March 15, 2025.
