ST GABRIEL'S Primary School and Nursery in Prestonpans will remain closed tomorrow (Friday) and East Lothian Council says it is "too early" to say if it will reopen on Monday.
Following the evacuation of more than 150 pupils and two neighbouring households on Tuesday due to a gas leak, the school was closed yesterday and today, and it has now been confirmed that it will not open to children or staff tomorrow.
Now, East Lothian Council is looking at alternative venues to use for the teaching of pupils on Monday if the school premises cannot be reopened.
Emergency gas works, carried out by SGN, have continued in the school grounds and on South Grange Avenue since Tuesday, with children learning online.
Residents of the two homes which were evacuated are still unable to return.

An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “Following further discussion this morning with SGN, St Gabriel’s Primary and Nursery School parents and carers have been informed that the building will remain closed tomorrow (Friday, November 29).
“It’s still too early to say whether the school will reopen on Monday, so we are moving forward with alternative plans to use other facilities in the area if required so that all children can return to in-person learning on Monday.
“All schools have business continuity plans in place in the event of unexpected situations such as an essential closure. The priority will be to support children to learn in-person within their local community and to minimise further disruption to families until such a time as St Gabriel’s campus can safely reopen.
“Officers continue to be in contact with SGN and we will inform parents and carers on or before Sunday about arrangements for Monday’s in-person learning, whether this is in St Gabriel’s or an alternative space.”
An SGN spokesperson said: “Gas emergency work on South Grange Avenue, Prestonpans, is ongoing.
"Our engineering teams are continuing repairs and investigations; however, gas readings are still being registered.
“Safety is our number one priority and the affected properties will only be reoccupied once it is safe to do so.
"We’re in regular contact with everyone that’s been evacuated to keep them updated.
“We're working as quickly and safely as possible, and will remain on site until our work is complete.”
