A COMMUNITY radio station has been received £10,000 to continue its work.

Tranent-based Radio Saltire launched in 2011 and has been on air ever since, while expanding its network, and has been broadcast on FM since 2018.

A dedicated team of volunteers collaborate to present shows, broadcast from its station on Civic Square, as well as working behind the scenes to keep it running.

They recently applied for the National Lottery Community Fund Award and on November 15 were awarded £10,000.

The faces behind the station are “absolutely delighted” to have received the grant, which will be used to continue their work, keeping equipment current, maintaining the station and expand its Community News Network.

Mags Foster, presenter and chair of the board of trustees, said: "The lottery funding will play an important part in enabling us to continue to grow the community involvement aspect of the station services.

"It will also help us grow our network and the range of community shows we can produce live in the station and out in community projects.

"This will also allow us to further develop the role of our volunteer support worker, Brian Falconer, who is instrumental in growing community links and connections for us and helping us plan our ongoing interactions.

"We are impacted by growing costs just like all other organisations, so this funding and the timing of this could not have been better for us to continue the good work already gaining momentum in 2024."
