AN APPEAL by the Royal Voluntary Service has attracted 11 new volunteer drivers to take people in East Lothian to medical appointments.
Tom Pearson, service manager, said that the appeal was helped by the Courier, among others, highlighting the need for recruits.
Three new volunteer drivers from Musselburgh and one each from Prestonpans, Gullane, Port Seton, Haddington, Longniddry, North Berwick, Aberlady and Macmerry answered the call.
A get-together involving the new and existing volunteer drivers was held recently at East Lothian Community Hospital in Haddington.
Mr Pearson said: “We had a really good turnout. Twenty-five of the volunteer drivers were able to attend.”
Attendants enjoyed cakes, coffee, tea and an update on the service, including client survey results.
Any East Lothian resident aged 65 or over struggling to get to medical appointments can book a volunteer driver to take them (for a small fee). Contact the RVS office on 01875 811011 or EastLothian@RoyalVoluntaryService.org.uk to register.
