AN OFFICE marketed for six months with “no success” looks set to be turned back into a house.
The property on East Linton’s The Square is currently occupied by James Sandie & Son, Painters & Decorators.
However, it is “no longer fit for purpose” and East Lothian Council was asked to grant permission to turn it into a house.
The business use the building for office, storage and paint mixing purposes but it was noted to planners that the building was previously used as a house.
Tony Thomas, representing Murray Stewart and Lynn Logan, said: “The property was built as a home and the best use for a building is always the use for which it was originally intended.
“It occupies an attractive setting on The Square, offering a relatively quiet location yet in the heart of East Linton.
“At present, larger vehicles (delivery and operational) have to access the site and the location is unsuitable for the size of vehicles for parking and manoeuvring.”

No demolition is proposed for the building, with drawings showing four bedrooms spread over the three floors.
It was also noted that the building had been marketed by Burns & Partners since the start of March.
The report reads: “It is clear from their feedback that the only interest has been from individuals wanting to convert the property to residential use (or investor/developers looking to do the same).
“There have been only 11 viewings over this period which in itself indicates a limited market for commercial uses at this location and for this type of property (not purpose built).”
East Lothian Council noted that there were no objections from members of the public
The planning officer’s report noted that it had been “satisfactorily demonstrated” that the property had been marketed for more than six months, with “no reasonable offers” having been received, and permission for the change of use was granted.
