A YOUNG boy has raised more than £400 by selling his stick sculptures to help bereaved families who have suffered the loss of a baby.
Four-year-old Luke Allan, from Tranent, who attends the Links Nursery in Musselburgh, collected driftwood from the beach at Musselburgh, taking it home to arrange into size order before turning it into works of art.
Helped by his dad Daniel, holes were drilled into the wood and string pulled through them before the stick sculptures were delivered to delighted recipients who had learned about Luke’s fundraising efforts via social media community pages.
Cash raised was donated to Held in Our Hearts – a charity providing baby loss counselling and peer support to families, with more than 40 years’ experience of offering compassionate bereavement care in the community.
Daniel, who works at M&F Funeral Services in Musselburgh as a trainee funeral director, said: “With my line of work with being a funeral director, I’ve seen the great work that Held in Our Hearts has done with families I’ve cared for, so that’s why I wanted to help support them.”
He added: “With Luke being four, he’s not fully aware of what the charity does but he is aware that he’s raising money to help others by selling the stick sculptures. I’m very proud of Luke and how kind he is to others.”
The family thanked everyone who bought the sculptures and helped support Held in Our Hearts.
