TRAFFIC and noise concerns have been raised about a set of newly installed 24/7 InPost boxes beside a county Aldi store.

The Aldi store in North Berwick is located on Dunbar Road and the post lockers were installed at the front of the store in the past two weeks.

During North Berwick Community Council's meeting this month, the group's secretary Kathryn Smith read out a letter from a disgruntled resident of nearby Glenburn Road.

The letter asked: "Does Aldi have permission to put a parcel return and collect on the front of the shop, which is a 24 /7 operation?"

It went on to claim that, since the lockers were installed, traffic in the area had been "10 times busier", with more noise as well and the letter write claimed that they had lost sleep as a result.

It added: "It has affected our health greatly when waking up, it is horrendous; also the increased fumes are a big issue during the day in a residential area.

"Can we try and get something done for once in favour of the residents who live in the area?"

In 2021, the store was granted permission to deliver goods at 5.30am after producing a noise management plan for the store, following complaints made by nearby residents.

Councillor Jeremy Findlay, North Berwick Coastal ward member, told the Courier following the meeting: "I understand the concerns that local residents have about this addition to the Aldi site.

"I am not sure why InPost need a further site when they already have two sites in North Berwick ,neither of which impact on local residents.

"I would urge Aldi to reconsider this option and listen to local opinion from people who are likely to be their customers as well."

East Lothian Council confirmed it was not involved with the lockers.

Aldi told the Courier it had not received any complaints about the lockers at its North Berwick store.

InPost has been contacted for comment.
