A MODERN house overlooking the River Tyne has been given the green light – despite half a dozen objections.
The property, at the corner of Haddington’s Mill Wynd and Tynebank Road, was approved by East Lothian Council’s planning department.
Council officials received six objections to Dawnside Development Ltd’s proposals, including the impact on bats, newts, squirrels and other wildlife, as well as that the design of the proposed house “would not be in keeping with the area and would be visible from the river walk”.
Concerns were also expressed that the creation of a house on the site “would make a dangerous part of the road more dangerous for all users, including pedestrians and cyclists”.
Drawings included with the application for a two-storey home show an integral double garage.
The ground floor also features a kitchen and pantry, as well as home office, shower room, dining and lounge.

Upstairs will feature four bedrooms – two en-suite – as well as access to a terrace.
According to the design and access statement included with the planning application: “In summary, these proposals are for a carefully designed, low-impact home that has been responsibly embedded, both physically and visually, within its context.
“The proposals make a positive, modern intervention within the landscape, and offer a rich response which is respectful to the natural, physical and historical environs.”
