CALLS have been made for a hedge to be trimmed to improve visibility at a busy junction.

Concerns have repeatedly been raised about motorists trying to join the B1347 from Athelstaneford.

Malcolm Vickers, who represents the village on Haddington and District Community Council, raised the issue again at a recent meeting of the group.

He told the Courier: “It’s virtually impossible to get a clear view either side of that junction so you can see the cars coming from the left and right.

“You cannot do it unless you nudge out probably to the point half your bonnet is over half of the road.

“It’s a little bit of a gamble to do that.

“It has been an issue for years and years and years; in fairness to the farmer, he has cut it back, but obviously it grows back and you cannot see again.”

The issue has also been raised with East Lothian Council in an attempt to find a solution to the problem.

A spokesperson for the local authority said: “We will be highlighting these concerns to the landowner and advising that appropriate action is taken.”
