EAST Lothian Council is seeking public opinion on its draft climate change strategy.

The council has launched a survey and running public sessions to gather feedback on its proposed climate change strategy for 2025 to 2030.

This comes after the local authority declared a climate emergency in 2019 and published its first five-year strategy in 2020.

The new draft strategy lays out the council’s rationale for action and the specific measures it plans to implement.

The strategy is organised into four broad themes, further divided into 17 focus areas detailing the council’s operations and approach.

The council is running multiple consultation sessions over the next month across East Lothian to hear more of the public’s ideas.

The first consultation is on Saturday in Prestonpans Library from 10am to 1pm, followed by an event next Saturday (November 16) in Dunbar Library from 10am to 1pm.

Haddington’s consultation will be on November 25 from 4pm to 7pm in the Star Room of the John Gray Centre.

In Tranent, the consultation will take place on November 30 from 10am to 1pm.

Musselburgh’s session is on December 3, from 4pm to 7pm at the Fisherrow Centre Room G1, with North Berwick’s session taking place at the same time on December 5 in the town’s library.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Your views are important because we are eager to take the best and most effective climate action for our residents, businesses and partners.”

The process allows for feedback on the council’s proposed actions, as well as potentially generating new ideas and suggestions for improvement.

The survey provides the written contents of the draft strategy and poses questions after each theme, with space for additional comments.

The survey will close at 11.59pm on Sunday, December 15.
