NEARLY 100 calls were made to police in East Lothian in the last week about anti-social behaviour, it has been revealed.

The figures were highlighted in a letter sent out to parents and carers of youngsters at Musselburgh Grammar School earlier today.

The letter was sent out by Jodie Hannan, headteacher of the town’s secondary school, ahead of Guy Fawkes Night tomorrow (Tuesday), and asked for “your support regarding potential anti-social behaviour”.

It reads: “As you may be aware, there have already been a number of anti-social behaviour concerns around Edinburgh and the Lothians involving youths setting off fireworks and causing a disturbance.

“Ben Leathes, Chief Inspector, Police Scotland, has contacted all East Lothian school colleagues to flag up that, whilst Niddrie in Edinburgh has received the media headlines, last week, Police Scotland received 94 calls about anti-social behaviour in East Lothian."

She said that CI Leathes had asked the school to write to parents and carers to emphasise to their young people the danger of setting off fireworks in our community, and the upset and disruption such anti-social behaviour causes.

In recent days, there have been multiple reports of youths throwing fireworks in Musselburgh.
