LAUGHS are promised at what could be a regular comedy night in Haddington involving Ronnie Corbett’s daughter.
The Two Ronnies star’s daughter Emma has teamed up with former Aberfeldy drummer Murray Briggs to launch the comedy events in The Railway Hotel.
Murray, who runs his own removals business, confirmed that the first Laugh it Off at the Railway, on November 30, would feature half-a-dozen comedians, including himself.
He said: “I have always really loved comedy and going to gigs.
“You get a wee bit older, the kids leave home and you think: 'Why not try something new?'
“I did a couple of workshops and got into it.
“I’ve done about 25 gigs so far and it is good; I’m really enjoying it.”
Actor, comedian, broadcaster and writer Ronnie Corbett, who died in 2016, was born in Edinburgh and also had a home in Gullane.
His daughter Emma continues to live in the seaside village.
Murray and Emma, who know each other through comedy circles, hope that the event could become a regular feature on the social calendar.
It is hoped that the comedy nights could feature established comedians, as well as providing a platform for those trying to make their way up in the entertainment industry.
On the opening night, which gets under way at 7pm, Murray and Emma will be joined by Canadian-born comedian Cobin Millage; Jay Miles, who runs Bearfoot Comedy in Kirkcaldy; veteran comedian Obie; and Al Thompson, from Glasgow.
Fifty-year-old Murray said: “I love the room upstairs in the Railway and just think it is underused.
“I thought it would be good putting stuff on in the community and see if people like it.
“If they do, they come and, if they do, we keep doing it.
“I’m quite looking forward to it.
“I have done about 25 gigs and it is terrifying the first few times you do it, but I am starting to get used to it more and bricking myself less every time I book a gig.”
