THE Saltire is flying at half mast in Haddington ahead of the funeral of former First Minister Alex Salmond later today.
Members of East Lothian Council are meeting in Haddington Town House.
Ahead of the start of the meeting, which will consider the future of The Brunton in Musselburgh and Macmerry Recycling Centre, Provost John McMillan noted the death of Mr Salmond.
The former leader of the SNP and Alba Party died just over two weeks ago when he suffered a heart attack while attending a conference in North Macedonia.
Mr McMillan told the meeting that immediately on hearing the “sad news” of Mr Salmond’s death, he asked for the correct flag protocol to be followed.
The flag at nearby John Muir House was lowered to half mast following his death and has been lowered again to mark the day of the funeral.
A private ceremony is due to take place at 1pm at Strichen Parish Church in Aberdeenshire.
Former East Lothian MP Kenny MacAskill, who is now acting Alba Party leader, is expected to give a eulogy.
