SMOKE machines being used as part of filming in Haddington town centre may have forced the temporary closure of the town’s John Gray Centre earlier today.
Film crews were working over the weekend and into Monday on Borges & Me.
A number of shops and businesses were transformed to fit in with Jay Parini’s novelised memoir, which tells the story of a journey through Scotland as a graduate student in St Andrews in the 1970s.
However, the John Gray Centre, which is home to the town’s library and archive services, was also temporarily closed today.

A poster outside the Lodge Street building read: “The John Gray Centre is closed at the moment due to an issue with the fire alarm system.
“We apologise for any inconvenience and hope to be operational again soon.”
A spokesperson for East Lothian Council provided an update.
They said: “There were multiple alarm activations related to smoke machines being used for filming outside.
“The emergency services attended and there was no danger; however, system resets were required before the building could be reopened to the public which happened at 2pm.”
