VISITORS to Musselburgh Art Club’s autumn exhibition were treated to demonstrations of painting by the artists.

Five club members shared their talents during the recent Trading Post Makers and Crafters Market at Cockenzie House, showing people their varied techniques and styles.

Pam Strachan, spokesperson for the club, said: “We are really delighted with our autumn exhibition. It’s the largest that we have undertaken for some years. This is thanks to the team at Cockenzie House and Gardens, who kindly offered us space in two of their galleries.”

Pam added: “With 70 members, we think our shows are always diverse and interesting. There are as many styles as we have members.

“As a club, we really enjoy being engaged with the local community. Last year, we did painting demonstrations as part of the Christmas fair at Cockenzie House. We liked it so much that we [did] three more this year.”

Pam was one of the artists demonstrating their artwork at the exhibition. She started painting just before the Covid-19 pandemic and works in all media.

The other artists at the ‘live’ painting day held last month were:

  • Rona Allan, a keen hillwalker and Munro bagger who has been a member of the art club for more than two years, since she retired, and is now looking forward to her solo exhibition at Cockenzie House next spring;
  • Alasdair MacLauchlan, who started doing Christmas cards for friends and family, and now loves painting Prestonpans and Cockenzie, where he lives;
  • Margaret Hunt, who enjoys painting the Bass Rock, saying the view has always been part of her life;
  • Club vice-chair Jim Bell, who has been painting on and off for 20 years, initially as a hobby.

The art club has a studio on Bridge Street, Musselburgh, near the Brunton Hall. For more information about the club, email contact@musselburghartclub.org
