THE popularity of bowling in the 19th century meant it was one of the first pastimes in East Lothian to be organised into a county league – but it had been around for centuries before that!
During the 16th century, Mondays were set aside in Scotland for sports and pastimes, which included archery, quoits, golf. . . and bowling.
A bowling green in Haddington has been in existence since the 17th century!
